    a flat 6 or a 4 pot turbo......

tbh, I'm quite happy to have a turbo, so I might wait - esp as they might price the cayman below the boxster...

but, its fairly clear what spec I am looking for, so if one turns up I will have a look.

If waiting for the 718 Cayman you may want to wait for the 2.0 model to be launched. I was speaking to my Porsche dealer on Tuesday and he said that with the torque the 2.0 litre has it will probably be the pick of the range in terms of value for money. He said sales of the new 991.2 standard Carrera are far outstripping the S model this time around as the real world performance of the smaller turbo engine is easily more than enough for the majority of buyers and he expects the 2.0 718 models to be exactly the same. The 718 is a seriously expensive car when optioned up so I'd be inclined to find a 6 cylinder outgoing car that is either still spec changeable or as close to the spec you want as possible and haggle hard on it. March is the end of the first sales quarter so some of the smaller, more remote dealers may need the sale to hit target and will be willing to lop a significant chunk off either a stock car or unsold build slot.

In that case I'd speak to the Aberdeen Porsche dealer - a brand new shiny showroom; and a local economy through the floor thanks to the oil price - I'd imagine they're not selling many cars

And it's front engine rear wheel drive, like a small version of an F12

    Thanks for the tips !

I spec 'd my ideal 718 boxster and got to well over 50k , so if I do find a second hand one I might go for it.

Just hate not buying the latest model - but if it's 10 months old and 12k less it's hard to argue against !

I meant a new showroom display car or one the dealer has either had to spec for production and is yet to arrive or one of the last production build slots for a 6 cylinder car. The 4 cylinder turbo engine sounds pretty awful even with the optional sports exhaust and that option isn't available at launch.

I did notice that option was missing

I think it's possibly available from July production. Here is the sound of the 718

Now compare it to the sound of the outgoing flat 6

ah yes , does sound a bit tinny , but clearly the 718 does not have a sports exhaust and the other is a GTS ! - so I would expect that to be miles better.

edit - my lawnmower sounds better than that !!

The GTS effectively has the same engine as the S model. It was more of a cosmetic upgrade to the car rather than a full blown performance step up. It will most likely have a sports exhaust fitted.

Here is a 718 Boxster S which I'm pretty certain has the PSE sports exhaust option fitted. The turbo 4 cylinder has much more of a bassy sound and doesn't have the high pitched scream as you pile on the revs that the flat 6 N/A engine has.
