Default Windsor Castle Event, 3rd Sept

I got my tickets and instructions from FOC this week for the Concours of Elegance event at Windsor Castle next weekend (3/4 Sept). The FOC is displaying on The Long Walk on the 3rd. The instructions ask owners to be park up between 8-8:30am, is it then a "lock-in" until the end of the day (5:30pm)? Everyone will be subjected to an airport style search (no liquids). I cannot see the wife and I surviving that long at the event.

Does anyone have 1st hand knowledge of these things, can you leave when you have done and seen enough etc...

Certainly at Holyrood last year you could come and go as you please, but Holyrood is at the bottom of the Royal Mile. We left when we wanted, no issues.

That said, from what I've read about this year's Concours you are right about the lock in....

My understanding is that FOC cars need to arrive at or as close as possible to 09.00, if you get there earlier you'll be put in a holding area.
I suppose 9 hours with SWMBO is a lot to ask but as the Queen is only 90 years old once, then it's a small sacrifice to make (and I'm a republican)

    I have a further query....
Reading the info again this evening it says "Airport-like" security- no liquids but toilets and catering are provided.
The wife has asked if that means we cannot bring a picnic on Saturday.

We will be allowed to come an go (via a wristband). Any advice? picnic on the Long Walk ?
