I could go into more detail but the upshot would be simply be that the only real benefit of spacers is purely cosmetic.
Even in knife edge rear grip of early tipo’s modern tyre selection would have way more effect than 10mm spacers. The maths is complex but I’ll state 3% absolute maximum increase in lateral grip for lots of downsides.
Spacers are probably the birthing point for the modern ‘stance movement’....

I tried spacers on my JCW Mini a few years ago, solely for looks.
It absolutely ruined the ride on my favourite road due to the increase in unsprung weight.
I won't be fitting spacers again.

I'd say the development the manufacturers put in means they usually get it right. I know spacers are a reversible mod but I'll just bet anyone selling a high value car wont let the buyer know they've been adding additional stress (unplanned by the manufacturer) to the car prior to it going on sale![]()
