    Default MOT travel while SORN'd

I know you can travel to an MOT appointment in a car that's SORN'd but can you drive you drive it back without taxing it? My F430 usually gets transported to the dealer so this question hasn't cropped up for me before.

Ask the garage if you can borrow their trade plates for an hour

Ahhh ... DVLA website states ...

"When you can drive your vehicle
You can only drive a vehicle with a SORN on a public road to go to or from a pre-booked MOT or other testing appointment."

Thatís correct but you should choose a reasonably close MOT station otherwise if stopped by ANPR you could be in bother.

Not too sure about the above ?

Surely if you get "zapped" you can prove you were zapped en-route from home to chosen MOT destination and so should be fine ?

Every spring I take my SORN car 85 miles to The Ferrari Centre in Maidstone for its MOT & Service.

As long as you have booked into the MOT station then you can get your car mot'd at any garage. Plod cant dictate where you get your MOT done.

I got stopped whilst driving a eurobox back from MOT (LNRP camera unmarked car), and got all the normal sarcastic crap about do you know why we stopped your sir. bla bla bla I showed them my 10 minuet old MOT pass ticket, and one of the plod still checked my tyres !!

I could handle an argument with plod on the hard shoulder as I know I'm in the right. However, a fine in the post at a later date that I then have to contest would be a pain.
