Interesting point Nick, especially as our cars get older, go through a few owners and "what was original?"

I declared a non standard exhaust system on my policy, make unknown, but probably a tubi! And stated "...to the best of my knowledge..." and "...as far as I'm aware..." statements!

Whilst some stuff should be obvious, ie rims, seats etc. Some wont be, suspension, engine tuning, cats etc unless somebody tells you or you have receipts for the work.

Wrt to cats, my car was built just before the cut off, doesn't have cats, but has lamba and thermocouples. Whatever is on there has been there for some considerable number of years...same "patina" as everything else, the configuration appears on the Ferrari schematics so all I can assume is that its original, other than the back box! At the end of the day I'm not a mechanic, nor a Ferrari specialist with knowledge of what was original, so how can I be expect to know!! So is it original...as far as I'm aware and to the best of my knowledge yes

When I insured my last toy, a 63 Spitfire, this was a more interesting conversation...what was non-standard...no idea, but I suspect x, y, z etc list about 1/2 a page of A4! But I couldn't be sure on a lot of it and had absolutely no idea on somethings such as engine tuning; it was a 55 year old car with 7 owners, 1/2 of whom had now probably passed away! Didn't effect the cost of insurance, but as stated you need to cover yourself so that the insurance company doesn't have a "silly" excuse not to pay out in the event of a claim.

Adrien, due to the presence of the thermocouples and cat ECUs on your car I don't have much doubt it would have had cats. Although some early 348s came from the factory without them it appears they also didn't have the cat warning ECU/thermocouple set up. No need for it and this is indicated in the parts manual I have. A lot of changes were made to the engine side of things during the first year and continued through production. Some of the early stuff is a little talked about. Maybe all thats for another thread. Don't worry. Ive tried to justify decatting my car but its just not the right spec. It should have them. Like so many others Ive still done it. Mid 1991 registered. Original cats kept in storage.

Nice to say hello on Sunday. Car looked well.

Nick, Good to meet you as well. Incredible car.

If anybody will know re cats it will be you. We will just have to see how the MOTs go. Talking with the guys that do my annual service they say that those cars around the cut off are getting more challenging to justify/prove. I wouldn't be surprised if at some stage in the future I'll have to get a pair Prefer to spend the money of tyres and gas

Little pic of the day! If I'm still out tearing up the roads at their age...

My car when purchased had both sets with it. Mine was registered end of Jun 92 but believed to have come out the factory feb-march that year. It came with cats even though the cut off was shortly after registration. The cats were put on, as MOT regs state if a car came with them they should be on.(probably would have passed based on being registered beforehand anyway, how would they know otherwise.) In all fairness my cats aren't standard anyway and have been more than happy with them. Straight pipes were just too loud for me. I can sleep at night.

I canít fault my Nouvalari Cats and I think theyíre cheaper than the other 2. Fabspeed I think are made in the US so they need importing, Larini donít actually make anything, they sell what someone else has made (with a markup), Nouvalari is made my PD Gough just down the road from me.

Highly recommend PD Gough, sounds great even on mine and they are made in the UK, good quality and probably cheaper that others
