    Default MoT Time

Time is fast approaching for the next MoT; after the WW

My friendly local MoT station has unfortunately shut. So I'm hunting for somewhere else. Dick Lovett will do it and are just down the road, but what are peoples experience of main dealers for older car MOTs?

I have tried another local garage for one of my daily drives, and they were somewhat overly pedantic/questionable on how the car worked (lights) that I'm not going back, even for my other daily drive. I'm not keen on trying another new garage with the Ferrari as a first time. I know its just a car, but...!

More than likely overthinking this and should get a life but what's peoples views, and anybody know a good sensible MOT station around this way?

    Cheers
    Adrian

The main dealer will almost certainly farm it out to a garage anyway and IME, the garage that Carrs used were quite forgiving on my my 360 (The washer bottle hose had blew off). No experience with DL.

Luckily I have a local MoT station for my older cars who are excellent, researching where the jack points are etc beforehand and also getting me to operate switches, brakes etc

DL do it in house, well the physical testing station is in the workshop. Whether its one of their guys that does it or they contract somebody in I don't know. Guess its a volume thing; but as long as its not a self licking lollipop...

If your trusted little local station has closed Iíd find another one. The Ďself licking lollipopí business model is far too prevalent.

One thing I have done previously when Iíve used a dealer or indie is get the annual service done with the MOT insisting on the service being done first. As theyíre supposed to check nearly everything on an annual service if itís done by the book itís quite tricky for them to find faults at the MOT......

I used to get the service + MOT done at the same time, but stopped because I got tired of paying for things in the service at ~£100+ an hour that I could have fixed myself. I now get the MOT done myself before the service.

Local MOT station to me is pretty good - not had any problems with them.

Me too. I know the guy (although he's close to retirement now ) very well. It was his first time doing my Ferrari this year but it passed albeit with plenty of advisories. Most of which have now been completed.
Where I had the service done this time (and previous) will do MOT's but as they (rightfully) stay with the car it is an hour's labour.

DL MOT tech is an in-house Ferrari tech. Which also means a Saturday MOT is not always available, always my preference.
The times I had the 360 done he appeared to be reasonable and went through, showing me any advisories. Seemed knowledgable on the 360 but not sure whether he would have same knowledge of the 348.
As itís a MD you pay the full statutory price.
Also used 2 local centres. First very good so canít remember why I didnít go back there. Second couldnít get emissions to pass so failed it. DL passed it days later without any adjustment .
