    Default 360 exhaust system

I have an aftermarket exhaust on the car and with the valves open it makes more noise than I like. Question is, can I safely just geld the exhaust by blocking up the rubber tubes that feed the exhaust valves so that they never open. Will this confuse the ECUs? Is the valve opening linked to a lengthening of the inle manifolds as I think I remember it does on the 430.

I would have thought that it might restrict the gas flow at high rpm and dull the performance. I suppose your exhaust has less restriction so would compensate to a degree. Does the gasses through the valve go through a third cat ?
No sensor after the valve if it’s similar to the 355 so presumably still shouldn’t affect the mot as emissions not tested at that high a rpm.
Just my initial thought based on nothing.
Keep the rpm low in town then the valve wouldn’t open anyway.

Is the default valve position for the 360 open ie to have them permanently closed you’d need to wire them shut. In any event don’t do it, look around for a standard exhaust to replace it

The default is open. Unplugging the electrical connectors or disconnecting the pipes will simply mean they're open all the time.

Presumably then its the intake manifold vacuum under open throttle that closes the valves.

Just read the workshop manual extract. My eyeballs are now well and trully glazed. I shall put up with the noise. Or repair my orognal silencer.

Replacing the insulation on a standard system is pretty straightforward
