old bentley or Rolls

I would only buy a 2006 or later Continental (or the newest model from 2011). The early ones had quite a few quality issues which I have experienced first hand.

I was given the same advice from someone who knows them well. Big ends being a particularly painful issue.

I intend to buy one in the next few years......W12 for me also but my annual mileage Needs to drop a bit.

chavvy imo :thumbsdow
Even in subtle colours they're not subtle.

Perma-tan central. Peter Stringfellow-mobiles.

Bentley S1 would be my choice :) Wanted one as our wedding car but the one I found had mechanical trouble. Rolls Royce Silver Cloud I was used instead. Lovely cars. Not stupid money either - I can imagine wafting down to the South of France in one. Or picking the kids up from school :) One of those cars where I reckon you'd be happy pootling at 60mph.

I think the Continentals have moved on from their Footballer image and now a lot more normal people are buying them because they are such good value for money.

Anyway, I have decided to stick with my Silver Seraph as its such a good car and infinitely better than any previous Rolls Royce to drive. Prices are also on the up so that's useful.

They only built 1,500 so they are much rarer than the Bentley Arnage equivalent and the BMW V12 is a much better engine and at least 25% more economical than the ancient V8 with a turbocharger.
The ride's a lot better as well !

The best one in the country is less than £50,000 and there are several currently for sale with specialists from £36,000 - £45,000

Div 2 or not I still like the GTC !
:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

And I would go for a Continental although as I'm actually looking for a daily driver to replace my current Audi A5 Sportback 3.0 Diesel Quattro, a W12 would be too thirsty and a V8 too expensive

A £35-£40k 911 coupe is probably a more sensible option. Other options : see new thread........

anybody on here run an old Bentley or a silver Shadow ?

I've always fancied one and wondered if anyone has some genuine ownership experience :hmmm:
1932 Bentley Woody Estate – Shooting Chair Refresh at CCR

Had this absolute beauty in the shop recently — a 1932 Bentley Woody Hunting Estate. A real slice of pre-war British motoring history, and one you don’t see every day.

The owner brought it in for a refresh on the rear shooting chairs, which are such a cool feature. Originally built for countryside shoots and weekend escapes, they needed a bit of love to bring them back to life.

We re-trimmed the chairs in Connolly Leather Hide — the real deal. It’s the same leather used in classic Bentleys and Rolls-Royces back in the day, and it just oozes quality. Went with a tone that complements the rest of the interior and keeps that original feel intact.

This kind of work is always a treat — you’re not just working on a car, you’re preserving a piece of history. It’s all in the details: the stitching, the texture, the fit. Super satisfying to see it come together.

Happy to share more pics if anyone’s interested — always up for a chat about vintage Bentleys or restoration projects!

I'm definitely interested. A retrim massively lifts a car if it's done well IMO. My 348 is pretty nice all over but what really sets her apart from most others I've seen is the interior. I had a retrim done a few years ago, all the leather and carpets replaced and have kept it looking like new since it was done. Really does make a difference to the car over all.

Feel free to post up some pics of any retrims you've done in this area of the forum. You may even get some trade through it. Where abouts are you based?
