Project Car 2

Now, I'm by no means a 'gamer', in fact I only currently have 2 games on my computer, but thought I'd give Project Cars 2 a go. I was one of the early funders of Project Cars and they recently sent me a cheque as unbeknown to me that meant I'm a shareholder in the game and it's done pretty well. Anyway, I hought a new 'gaming rig' to run some new golf simulator software, have a force feedback wheel so thought I'd try Project Cars 2.

All I can say is it's very, very good.

The force feedback is amazing, you really do seem to feel the road. Of course it's not like proper driving but it does feel unbelievably close where you start tweaking the force feedback settings. As for realism, this gives an idea.....

Lots of tracks, an unbelievable number of cars (all of which are alledgedly fully modelled in terms of handling), ability to set up the car how you want it and a very 'real' feel - I'd say it's not bad for a game. To be fair it's more simulator than game.

Taking the 288 GTO along about 12 miles of the south coast of France was a blast.

As I say, not a gamer, but if you are and like driving games it could be worth a bash.

I really need to get a wheel & pedal setup to get back into it, but I grudge spending more on a wheel, pedal & seat combo than the PS4 cost in the first place!

I'm just having a go for fun so my old Logitech force feedback wheel and pedals will do for now. Still a blast.

My 10 year old son had a go in a Kart at Brans Hatch. He was pretty good tbh. Got the idea of how to correct a slide and smoothly apply power etc.

They are more simulators now than 'game'.

We are a generation of gamers and my wife spent most of her youth in arcades - the kids were blown away when they realised how good she was. PS4 pro sits in pride of place under the main TV for 4K Gran Turismo action. Sega Mega Drive, Nintendo 64, GameCube, PS3 are all plumbed in for retro action. Proper family nights in playing gauntlet with the kids.

Better than monging out in front of the TV passively watching some crap.

Sorry to disagree:grin: but I quite enjoy "monging out" in front of the telly, in particualr I really enjoy "Debbie does Dallas" does anyone have a spare VHS tape as mine is getting somewhat worn out:laugh:

There are now websites for that where you can watch the whole film for free on your smart TV - you will find it in the niche section called classic or vintage.

You and yours can then enjoy the nostalgia of body hair together as many times as you want ;-)

Mod you are the font of all knowledge:thumbsup: better than the Delphi oracle:grin:

SWMBO stopped watching it when she realised that Bobby Ewing was not in it:laugh:

I need to get back into Project Cars. When I turn on my PS4, it's normally to play GTA5 in an attempt to recreate daily life in Glasgow

Does project 2 have Silverstone in it? Ideally the track day circuit bit?

I've booked myself onto the FOC track day and having never been on the circuit before would like a little idea of where I'm going before I get there! I don't want to spend the day learning the track and driving like some muppet  (or anymore than I usually do!)

Cheers

It has these Silverstone setups, maybe someone can confirm if one is the setup they’ll use?

And while I'm still only dabbling in gaming, I’ve also started checking out other fun aspects of the gaming world—like esports-themed predictions on SkinClub Pickem Page. It’s a cool way to stay engaged with major CS2 tournaments, even if you're not playing yourself. You make predictions, follow matches, and win rewards. It's surprisingly fun and gives me that little competitive edge outside of racing games.
Sounds really cool! It's especially interesting that you turned out to be a shareholder - such a pleasant bonus rarely happens to anyone.

Project Cars 2 really conveys the driving experience well, especially if you have a good steering wheel with feedback. The fact that you don't consider yourself a "gamer" doesn't prevent you from enjoying such games - on the contrary, sometimes a fresh look helps you feel the details more. I wonder how you'll go with the golf simulator, be sure to share your impressions!

I'm now several years into using a golf sim at home and my impressions are that for a keen golfer in particular they are excellent although I have to admit it has made me into a bit of a 'fair weather golfer' - why go to your local track in drizzle or a gale when you can play Pebble Beach or Sawgrass in the warm and dry? :) I basically never go to the range now as my foresight launch monitor hitting the balls I use on the course tells me far more about how I'm striking the ball in my sim that I'd ever get from whacking range balls with wind effecting the ball flight.

The sim software you can now get for home use is excellent. I use software called GSPro. Anyone with the knowhow can make courses for it which means there are hundreds of courses and the number is growing all the time as people make more. Some are a bit rough around the edges others are excellent, you just need to know which designers are good. You can even commission a designer to build your home course using publicly available LIDAR (laser height maps), sat imagery and photos. All in all if you're a keen golfer and have the space (ceiling height is the main issue hence my custom built garage in another thread) I'd highly recommend a home sim. This is an example from one of the best current designers out there:
