You must be joking - that quote you have is a bargain for a 21 y/o with only one years no claims

All the best with the car 'n all that but there is a reason why most 21 year olds have Ford Escorts.

That does'n't sound unreasonable, but it's worth doing a lot of calling round. Get a copy of Evo or similar magazine and call every insurance company in the back - these are the specialists who are likely to be most use to you.

    Dear Comrade andibrook M8,

Surely, the first port of call would be to join the Lotus Owners Club and avail yourself of the preferential insurance for club members?

    With kind regards,

If you can restrict your mileage to 5k per year you could probably half that quoted price on a special reduced mileage policy. Also consider ADDING your father to the premium and get him to share the risk to see another couple of hundred removed too.

Try Footman James, they are really good eggs. Oh, and dont drive like you stole it, get some more years NCB under your belt and you'll be fine!

    Good Luck!

Unfortunately, there aren't many insurers out there willing to cover a 21 year old. The insurers the various owners clubs recommend get their custom from >25 year olds, who have owned their cars for several years.

I insured my S1 with Elephant, the first year I owned it. They availed me of £1240 for their troubles.

This year, I tried a broker recommended to me by Jonny5, of witness protection fame, and he trounced Elephant's renewal quote by around £350. Not only this, I have a lower excess and improved cover as a result.

Although, to be honest Andy, I think you'll struggle to get a sensible quote until you've demonstrated you can drive the car, without crashing it, for a year or so. Elephant or Admiral would be my port of call. Forget confused.com, it's useless.

edit: Get over to www.seloc.org if you haven't already

Try HIC and Footman James. Think you'll be struggling but FJ did insure me on a 355 at 25 for £1250, it was limited mileage policy but a bargain compared to most other companies.
