Smile 550 Insurance renewal....quotes... and the winner is....

    Insurance renewal and quotes:

    2001 550 Maranello
    Value 55,000
I am 35 years old - only me driving.
I have another car for everyday, which uses my no claims discount.
3 points on licence. 3 more points on my licence but over 3 years old.
Car kept in storage near my house (Oxfordshire).
    12 months / 6000miles insurance.
    Social domestic pleasure, no commuting.
Uk and European breakdown including recovery included.
90 days European driving included in the cover.

Previously I have paid 1349.26 (based on 70k car and commuting included) plus 130 for AA UK recovery = 1,479.26.

(Service from present insurer has been very good; I have the time to shop around)

    Quote 1:
Car is insured at market value.
I will have to insure car for first track day myself but will be insured for track days after that.
    Excess: 750.
    Premium: 1,357.68

    Quote 2:
Car is insured at AGREED VALUE (ie if the car is written off, I get paid the full 55,000 for sure).
Trackdays cost 80 each, excess at track day 1250.
    Excess: 500
    Premium: 1,182.90

    Quote 3:
Car is insured at market value.
Ferrari Owners Club organised track days are free.
    Excess: 700.
    Premium: 1,011.00.

I checked the smallprint and spoke to all three insurers to make sure I was comparing exactly the same thing and that there were no misunderstandings on any of the details.

Quote 2 came back with the following :

Car is insured at AGREED VALUE (ie if the car is written off, I get paid the full 55,000 for sure).

Occasional commuting / take to business meetings included (Note: occasional)

UK + European recovery included by classic car specialists - they send a flatbed truck to recover your car first call, not a mechanic to tinker then a truck.

1 free trackday of any kind thrown in. If I renew with them and don't do the trackday, they'll give me 50 off next years premium.

    Excess: 700

    Premium: ..................get this............985.

MY INSURANCE PREMIUM HAS JUST GONE DOWM FROM 1479.26 to 985.00, I HAVE SAVED 494.26, which is just over 33% !!!

.......and the winning insurer is: Chris McGrath at Michael Ward Associates (01707-266303),who was recommended by Jonny5 on fcars.co.uk - thank you!

Thank you very much to Jonny5 and to Chris at MWA - next time you see a green 550 Maranello....

If they could do more than walking mileage they would've here too.

You girls must not drive your cars enough.

Nice one, I will deffinitely shop around next time (October).

I will also be looking to do a track day and Aon said that they will not cover me for the 1st one. (The one where I will probably be the most careful ) (Thereafter it's 57 per day or something like that).

Any recomendations for track only insurance anyone?
