Default How many cars have Ferrari made?

I was just pondering... how many cars have Ferrari actually made? Since the first Ferrari was delivered to its customer over 60 years ago, to the last F430/612/599 that rolled off the line before this weekend, how many cars would that be? I know an exact figure would be very difficult to arrive at as the manufacture of new cars is in constant progress... but roughly?

I bet JT can give it to you within 20 units

    I reckon it'll be ~130,000.

I'm sure they went through the 100k mark during the 360 production run.Murph's right though, JT will know

About 12k made of F355's and 23k made of 360's and spiders alone!

If you just add up the 355's, 360 and 430's you'll get around 50k odd cars !

However that equates to probably about less than a single years production run of a Porsche Boxster or M3

I would have thought that Stewarts or Marks VIN numbers would have given you a clue

Unfortunately not It just seems like it sometimes!

Been at Brands for the A1GP meeting, hence the delay.

Ferrari claimed chassis no 127690 (a 575M Maranello F1) was the 100,000 Ferrari made, but no-one else that I know of has been able to establish how they came up with that. Anyway, if you assume that to be true then it makes it easy to know how many have been made in total as you just subtract 127690 from the latest current chassis number (just over 160,000) and add in a few racing cars. So that gives around 133,000 ( Murph).

I think they only used odd VINs for production cars for some years, which probably explains the 127690 number representing the 100k'th car.

Numbers will be ramping up hugely though from here on in. Current production is 3x the current average per annum.

133,000 over 60 years is an average of 2,200/year

    That sounds way to high
Wasn't production in 2004 only 4,500 -- the real ramping up of production is very recent?

Or have I got those numbers completely wrong

I think you're broadly correct, though I think also that there was a steady ramping up from the mid-70s.

With 3.5yrs being significantly over the average, you can have quite a few years at much lower production levels to give the same overall average. But that average will be increasing rapidly over the next decade.
