Default F355 - Too much pressure???

Whilst driving on the motorway last weekend I noticed the oil pressure seemed high when cruising in 6th gear at 90mph (see picture with red line drawn on) .

The needle in the dial moved smoothly upwards, and dropped back down in between slow gear changes, or when idling at the lights. When I pulled over and checked the oil I found it was low - I have subsequently topped it up to the max mark on the dipstick, and I think problem has subsided. I might be concerning myself about nothing, but I have taken a few shots of the car dashboard whilst driving - could any other F355 owners confirm if the oil pressure looks correct in comparison to the speedo and rev counter?

Looks high to me. Straight up's the norm on the move with a bit of give either side.

Could be a dodgy sender or pressure relief valve (I think these can stick), but if you've checked the oil properly and it's not too high on the stick, it would be worth getting it checked.

PS Are you sure the first picture's labelled correctly? At what point does the pressure pick up?

Matt the high reading should be like that when you start up untill the car warms the other reading does look slightly low as Murph said it should point straight up, but do please bear in mind the 355 oil gauge does fluctuate somewhat.

Sorry I should have been clearer in the first picture. The actual needle in the dial is showing the car warmed up and sitting on tick over. The red line indicates where the needle sits when the car is “travelling at speed” which looked a little high to me?

Sorry I misinterpreted, the high reading at speed looks ok to me the lower reading is slightly low but in my opinion(and experience) is not an issue.

Your 90mph figure does not look that abnormal to me

Thanks for the feedback , I think the oil pressure gauge may have always been “normal” and it’s only just come to my attention. As a relatively new owner I think I was probably concentrating on keeping the car on the road rather than the dials and never really looked at it that closely– I’m slowly mastering doing both at the same time!

    Thanks again.
