Smokey 355

Hi all I hope you can help, just bourght a 355 2.7 LHD knowing it had a cracked manifold which will be replaced shortly, the problem is the car has been sat for a few weeks on a drive which was on a downhill slope.(trying to give as much information here which may or may not be relevant) The car when we tested it before purchase was not smoking however now it is smoking.
Strange thing is when it is cold no smoke when it is hot and reved on acceleration it pours out.
it smells oily ( i am prayng its not the piston rings) any ideas?

Did you get a compression test done as part of the PPI? If so, what were the results?

Valve guides would be a good bet on a 355.

The car was checked at Verdi they did a full test I will ask them for a copy of the report, and let you know, valve guides are a recall I think? anyone know for sure.
Verdi said it could be the fact the exhaust manifold is leaking.

Valve guides are not a recall unfortunately (as far as I am aware).

I didn't jump right in with it because I didn't want to scare you but it can be circa £10k for a rebuild. Depends who does it and what exactly needs doing.

Lets wait and see what the problem actually is first though before we worry about it too much Could be something far simpler.

It'd mean a complete rebuild of both heads with new guids & new valves all round most likely - aka a small fortune.

But best not to get ahead of yourself here. Take the thing to someone like QV or Rardley & get them to do a propper diagnosis.

Assuming you have checked the obvious and verified the oil level is correct as per procedure in manual?
