Growing up in Yorkshire a few of the lads at school claimed to do this with the cargo train at the bottom of the school playing fields in the 80's..
I also remember them swimming in canals and we all used to put pennies on the train track to see what would happen once the train went over them !

If my lad went anywhere near the train tracks now, I'd slap him !!

But maybe thats because ive been down south too long .....

Cant believe that first bloke lying down in the 4 foot, he must be mad..seen too much cctv footage from the cabs, drunks children and suicides. we get the trains in when they havent got away with it, makes a real mess and surprising what damage a body will do.

I remember a crusty (but scary) train driver coming to my primary school assembly and telling us about the dangers of trespassing on the lines. Been sheite scared of trains ever since!

He mentioned a case of exactly what you refer to, and in this case the penny "tidly-winked" off the line and straight though both sides of the kids face. He survived, but had some scaring to tell a tale about.

Also, back in those days, even a small object like a matchstick could apparently spear through a train windscreen. (ok... maybe that was just scare tactics)

Anyway... I say idiot. Mainly because the train driver believes he's probabaly killed someone. Not a pleasant thought.
