Default 355 water temperature gauge not working

As the title says, my gauge isn't working. I've replaced both the sensors in the engine bay without any success. Obviously the gauge itself could have failed but is there any relay or fuse involved that I could check? I have a 1997 5.2 Motronic.
I've searched for a wiring diagram without success online. The workshop manual I have isn't too helpful.

Any advice would be very gratefully accepted. Thanks, Alan

There are no specific fuses or relays. Did you apply plumbers tape to the threads of the new sender by mistake? The sender uses the engine as an earth.

Instrument wiring diagram here (5.2 car):

    Temp sensor is labelled 04706

My pleasure, Alan, but what was the problem (for future reference)?

It was the little brass contacts in the instrument binnacle. I didn't see it myself but my mechanic friend told me of a thin paper / printed circuit being loose. As far as I know the binnacle has never been removed in my ownership (18 years). All sorted after the brass nuts were tightened.

Thanks, Alan. I was going to suggest looking at the nuts, but forgot. Glad you found it.
