Only wheels should be changed
Minor interior changes are ok
Wheels & minor interior changes are ok
They can do whatever the want, it's their money and their car

As much as he wantsIMO owner has paid for the car and he can do what ever he likes for it. It's very nice to see concours cars but won't hurt if there is some modded ones (with taste which is subjective) as long as car is not ultra-rare.
Will you get your money back from mods? no. Will you get your money back when modding Bimmer? No. Will modding make you more happy? If so, do it.
