Giles’ 360 Modena on-line scrapbook

Agreed….. do the same test again in a month or two?
That’s the difference I see in high quality waxes. They just last for ages.

Yep, I will do that.
I previously waxed it with Collinite yonks ago and it was still beading nicely on the roof/bonnet/wingtops, less so on the door bottoms and sills.
I had previously thought that using a long lasting wax that it would be very hard to use/buff off, distant memories of using turtle wax on my early cars when 17 being a challenging test of stamina! But this stuff, to coin an 80’s classic is just wax on, wax off.
My other car (collection Saturday!) has been ceramic coated, presumably that means I don’t wax it, just wash? In fact there is a mirror hanger in that car like you get when getting on a ferry, that explains to anyone that it’s been ceramic coated and therefore not to wash it, as to put at risk the durability of the coating. I guess I best read up about that!
Cheers, Giles

RE ceramic coatings - they come in different standards so you could have a 2-year coating, 5-year etc. But you’re right, no need to wax and with a car like the one you’re getting which will probably be treasured and used relatively sparingly they would all last longer than specified.

MOT day today 🤩
Passed with the rear tyres advised to replace.
Some unusual photos of the mucky side 🤣👍
Front underside damage still not horrendous 👍

This year I specifically asked the MOT chap about the emission because I have recently changed all 4 Lambda Sensors, response was, it’s spot on, which is good to hear.
I’ve been looking for rear tyres this afternoon as it needs them (advised), P-Zero’s look hard to come by so far, I’m hoping that the Burton on Trent Pirelli Performance Centre Will be able to supply, we will see.
Normally I have a list of next jobs, but nothing planned at the moment once the tyres are done. I was planning to have the wheels refurbished, but that can wait until they get too unsightly, currently they are a solid 6 out of 10 🤣

Excellent stuff. How is the seat leather holding up with the mileage - do you keep the seat covers on most of the time?
Hiya Mr Fish,
Yep, I keep the seat covers on just because I like to keep things in as good condition as possible.
Not sure if the photos I added in 2019 are still here but I did replace the drivers side bolster then, and also had the driver Centre leather strip on the centre line of the cushion (the bit you sit on) replaced.
After 50k miles they look no different to when I had it done.
I’ll get some photos…..
Cheers, Giles

One more to add but only 10 photos at a time….

Although my opinion is not so valid, conformational bias and all that, I think these seats don’t look too bad all things considered!

They look great for the mileage, which confirms my suspicions about other cars I've seen being clocked.

Many thanks for the photos, much appreciated - I'm always interested in how interiors hold up to mileage and use across different manufacturers

Maybe mine has been clocked?! 🤣

Hi Folks,
It seems Mike can see the future, previously he warned me of availability of the P-Zero OEM fitment tyre. However, as I was using the Pirelli Performance Centre in Derby I didn’t think they would run out, but they have, and I also appears none in stock anywhere.
So I have found a set of wheels and tyres from eBay(!) with 2 new Michelin PS5 on the front and 1 new Accelera ditch finder tyre on one of the rears and a 3 to 5mm Pirelli P7 on the other rear for £450 all in.
On closer inspection my P-Zeros currently fitted are toast, so to be legal I need to fit the bobbins rear tyres. I have noted the current miles (193,569) so I’ll work out how long they lasted later.
I think I got my money’s worth:

Legal but not by much Pirelli P7:

My plan is to get my original set of wheels fitted with the correct OEM P-Zero’s when I can but in the mean time I plan to buy a set of winter tyres for this second set of rims. I’ve done my research and I have found the Hankook winter to have performed well (4th overall) on the tube you test:

So I’ll get a set of these and have them fitted at the same time as getting the rims refurbished (cheap and cheerful at City Wheel Refurbishment in Digbeth Birmingham:

Obviously at some point I will use the Michelin fronts which came with this second set of rims.
It all more expense but if I use it all year round a set of winters might be a good idea? I guess I will find out soon enough.
Cheers, Giles

that is a good deal on the rims. is the refurb presumably paint not powdercoat?

if it was me, id have a set of mp5s. never got on with pirelli. love the mp4s on my 355.

I presume that’s powder coat, not paint at that price. However, I did read something about magnesium alloy wheels needed one special treatment, so does that mean no powder coating?
Advice gratefully received!

magnesium does need special treatment if powder coating; i believe as its so porous.

you need a specialist company as not many know what they are doing; there are a few around, one near me

Ive used him for normal stuff, always has some very interesting rims in for referb. Mine will be in next year, kerbed 2 of them this year!!! ooops!

360 wheels aren’t magnesium Giles…they’re an aluminium alloy.
Look for a material code on them. Something like AlSi….

355 have magnesium content and need treating with a conversion coating before finishing. They’re hygroscopic and can be a nightmare to refurb. I believe some restorers won’t touch them now.

Ferrari released a new aftermarket wheel for the 360 around 2010. I nearly bought a set as they were very cheap (relatively speaking!) but I think they were magnesium also.

A good description of the wheel options on Voicey’s blog including those late ones. I saw a set of new ones advertised for £800 a few years back

Hi Folks,
Just checked on the miles done on the Pirelli P-Zero’s I’ve just removed from the rear axle, they had covered 18,652 miles over about 1 year 7 months. Pretty good longevity, but admittedly they were properly spent on removal.
Cheers, Giles
