I'm personally chuffed to bits with the look and "feel"of our new home . However , rather than rest on our laurels, is there anything else we are missing ?

Can we push the site now, tell more people about it on other forums. Would be blooy helpfull if we had the ferrari related name sorted out.
Pleased with the way its going. Its like best of both worlds with out having to post on the dark side:grin:

Love it, felt like home from day 1.

Just a small concern over disk space, with 100 users and all these pictures we are soon gonna eat it up. Are we still on the 300MB database, or have we switched already to the 1GB? Do we have have an expansion plan beyond 1GB if we start to push the site?

As for promoting the site, my personal choice would be through word of mouth rather than just advertising to let anybody on. If we only invite people on that we know or have met, it should stop the trolls. OK, the site will grow less quickly, but I think it will be for the best. Just my 2p worth.

Best of the "dark side" bits, but without the US of A influence, thank goodness! Yet to see how good response is to technical or buying advice, I think this is where our limited numbers will begin to show due to a smaller pool of information to draw from. Example: GT4 questions, am I the only owner here? Are there previous owners? This is why I "want my cake and eat it" and suggest nipping onto f-chat for an "info-raid" if need be. Any still banned members should be able to rely on friends here to research anything they need from f-chat.

Good poit re the buying advice RMD and chaa (sorry can't remeber your new user name  ) about getting the name sorted.

It might be worth getting in touch with a decent independant who could become our "expert" on used car values. The other site never had that it was always just our opinions rather than hard facts.

Other than that the layout is spot on with well divided sections catering for serious FCar stuff and lght banter.

XfChat

I also think this site is brilliant great effort in short space of time The final name needs sorting asap I dont know why ,maybe because of the aggro on the darkside but the standard of posting seems to have gone up to another level ,Not so much p--s takinging and crap posting ,seems we are frieindlier bunch , the banter is nicer . Its great not seeing the breakfast picture every three posts .(maybe i will regret saying that) hahahahahah:grin:

As soon as we're ready to start elections for the positions of responsibility e.g. Treasurer, committee members, moderators etc then we'll need to make arrangements to open an account to hold funds.

Current priority though is sorting out what the forum is going to be called(keep PMing Angelis with your suggestions), drawing up a draft set of guidelines/rules and working out the election process.

Angelis is working on that whilst I'm trying to sort out some of the technical aspects of the site such as displaying potential sponsors banners. Crash course in PHP coming up...

Feels like home, and given that we've taken to it so quickly is full credit to Sy and the chaps for going the extra mile to get us settled in quickly. As for suggestions, definately needs a new ferrari named web page - I was asked this morning by a semi regular fchatter what the website was - I said something complicated - but I'm sure we can get something changed fairly quickly. I wouldn't mind seeing a forum for dealers, local UK specialist dealers dropping a few adverts - after all, on fchat, we always had to ask many many times to find out who was a local specialist to a particular area, and secondly, it was always down to us to locate cars at dealers for other fchatters, so why not help fund the site by allowing some dealers to post/sponsor this site?

Thanks to everyone for your support.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

I guess getting a name is the number 1 priority at the moment and it also happens to be the hardest one to do.

My personal opinion is to have two names.

An official sounding name like "Ferrari Enthusiats Club" ... FED (just an example :D) for the name of the actual organisation. This would have it's own separate stand alone website with links to the forum.

And a more catchy "brand name" for the forum. eg: fgear.co.uk which would be easy to market and promote.

I'm in the process of creating a business plan for the orgainsation which will contain more info. Parts of it will be avialbel to view to members in the next few weeks.

I'm currently drawing up contingency plans with costings for expansion which wil be inserted into the business plan.

If the existing site begins to slow down, we can easily transfer it Leep's server.

We've currently got a few sponsors and advertisers lined, so we have to have an open forum. I'm afraid trolls are just a part of forum life. Although now they will at least be confined to the Lounge area and not in the Ferrari section.

Fchat is probably one of the best online Ferrari resources available and it's not something that we can compete with or should compete.

Our forum here is more about Ferrari life in the UK. Meets, parts, local advice etc. I don't see why most of can still visit the tech sections. Ideally this his forum should be used in conjunction with fchat.

I think dealers would be biased. Besides, all we need is a copy of glass's Guide. :wink3:

I think the main reason is that we have created extra sections to cater for everybodys needs. In fchat we all had to post in one UK section. Here, we have over 20 sections.

All financila details will be posted in the next few weeks. I'll also be putting up some polls end of this week to determine what members want from this site.

We cannot condone such actions. I am sure people will find out about us through word of mouth.

Feel more at home here than I did on Fchat. It feels different being involved from the beginning

I agree and we dont have Saddam Lay to deal with !

"Xfchat" will obiously fail to attract attention from ferrari main dealers.
I would suggest a simple letter to go out introducing ourselves to all independant dealerships, with details as to how they may become involved (via sponsorship, open evenings, ride out coffee etc).
This would offer all "indies" a similar opportunity, (and upon an even playing field) rather than just offering the few companies we know, and have come to trust over the years.
The south east of england has probably the highest intensity of both xfchat members and "indies", however it would be unfair to members if (say) Strasse in Leeds were not given the opportunity to become involved, and subsequently offer "help" to the members in yorkshire.
For example, we have an "indie" here on the island, and as arrangements were being made for one of the many island trips, someboby asked if a local dealership could be forewarned of our visit, and therefore have spanners available, if necessary, 24/7.
I would be prepared to help with this matter.
cheers for now, d.
ps ... Strasse were used simply as an example.
