Roma. Hmm...

I had the chance today to have a walk around a Roma and I must say I'm sadly a little underwhelmed. Very attractive in the pictures I thought, but this one with its silver paintwork didn't really do it for me at all. The nearby Portofino, Rosso F8 and TDF Cali T made it look almost boring. What a shame, perhaps another colour or a different environment would help. It also reinforced my feeling about the interior tech. It really does look like someone found a handy gap in the centre of the dash to squeeze their iPad into.

Nope, I think its like the 612 scaglietti. will be hated but some will love it.
Just watched the promo video off the Ferrari website and thought, hmmm, they need to put lots of classic violins into the vid because there is no car sound to shout about.

If my 458 had of been prancing around Rome like those Roma's I would have been escorted out of Italy.

I think they are going for 'understated elegance' with the Roma just not sure that really fits with the rest of the fleet. When you compare it to the striking lines of the 812 or aggressive stance of the F8 it's easy to find it a bit underwhelming. I'm sure it'll go incredibly well and be fantastically good at blasting effortlessly across the continent but it's the first Ferrari for a while that I just wouldn't want. I guess that probably means I'm not the intended market.

There's a fine line between 'understated' and a bit boring and I'm not 100% sure they managed to hit it.

That was my feeling. As mentioned, when in the company of a bunch of other Ferrari models it looked a bit dull but I'd imagine if parked in the Monte Carlo sunshine in one of their triple layer paints, I'm sure it'd look beautiful. I'll hold off final judgement at this point.

That damn iPad!!!

I never liked the FF either. Too much like a BMW 1 series from the side.
Having had a GTC4 Lusso (V12) for a week on loan i can't fault it as a great car. The sound, performance and handling were great. Well actually the sound was awesome.
Only minus was its size. Its massive as a car. However, it did fit into my garage which is only a single.
But yeh the Roma, Mehh...:hmmm:

I had a tour of it it a few months ago and actually rather liked it except for the front grille which I would paint a different colour. It is much nicer in the flesh than the pics. Speaking to some that have driven it they say it is rather benign, sioI would reserve judgement till I drive one.

If I had the money I would be tempted to buy one.

Some one in our village has one, as it passed the other day my wife thought it was an F Type. It does look better in darker colours, so you don’t see the strange grill.

Nothing a bit of tape and rattle can of satin black from Halfords couldn’t sort! Or perhaps somebody will provide an alternative like they did on the vantage, although it’s nowhere near as bad.

I like the idea, but as said too similar to others and those iPads...!!!

Its a big NO from me as it just doesnt look like a Ferrari more like an Aston. I think the 612 was ugly as well and they are now cheap. Bet you Roma prices will just drop like a stone.

Not seen it in the flesh yet, but from the pics I absolutely adore it - depending on colour. TdF blue, or one of the metallic reds for me

I prefer it to the California / Portofino line which have never done anything for me.

I see it, as its name implies, as an upmarket italian supersportscar for the weekends in Monaco / Riveria / Amalfi Coast / Sicily - A Paris 'Boulevardier'

My wife is absolutely smitten by them having seen them at Silverstone (in a variety of metallics sans wing shields).

Current Astons look too 'heritage' to me and have done for some years now.

The Roma is undeniably a classic design at its heart but has enough contemporary flavour to elevate it to places an Aston could never reach.

I can see many V8 mid-engined customers acquiring one for more elegant trips where the mid-engined V8's may be too uncouth.

I can also see a lot of female led / influenced purchases

If I didn't have my 599 I could very much see myself being in the market for one - but - having now found my V12 GT keeper that's unlikely.

Lovely things

We took the 360 out for a typical 'garage > 20 mile congested loop > garage' drive yesterday and a metallic red Roma passed us going the other way near Ascot. I must admit it looked far nicer than the silver car we saw in the Maranello car park (as did the one on Top Gear last week) :)

Well, two Roma's spotted today. A blue one in Slough (yeah, I know...) and whilst out on a walk we had a close look at a metallic red one (with shields) at Maranello in Egham. Perhaps the same car we spotted out and about in the post above. I must say that in that pretty colour it looked gorgeous and following my initial reservations at the beginning of the thread my verdict is this: Anyone who orders one in silver needs their eyes testing and a kick in the nuts. In a nice colour, I'd have one :)

Had a drive in one yesterday and absolutely loved it. Gorgeous in the flesh, and so usable - in comfort and auto you can just waft about; in sport and with the foot down it's feral. Everything about it was ace, the only slight downside I found was the brakes were extremely sensitive but you do get used to it.

Interesting to see the post-drive questionnaire, Ferrari wanting to know how often you would use one; ties in with what Mod says about the factory wanting the cars to be more usable and driven more often.

Very colour sensitive imo - I saw one in black it looslks a lot better. The grille works well in darker shades.
But does it carry/look like it had the Ferrari DNA in the shape? I didnt think so. In the same way that eg Porsche have managed to make the panamera/taycan carry the Porsche DNA in the shape. Tricky to pull it off properly.

Its something they have been pushing for decades now and there is a real schism between the factory and the dealerships...

I could really tell you some stories...

Have you ever wondered why the factory never push any stories with the narrative "look at this with so few miles on it"

They believe that not only was the brand driven by hard racing but even old race cars were bought and used and used.

Nick Mason appears in many articles for a reason - he uses his cars

Had mine for a couple of months now and love it. One of the best Ferraris I've owned. Blu Abu Dhabi with Cuoio.
