550 clutch replacement

Looks like I finally need a new clutch after 30k miles in my ownership. The release bearing is whining away so time to get it done. Any advice on where to get a clutch? Eurospares seem cheapest so far.

I've just put my car away for the winter, and it's not long serviced so I won't be getting it done as part of a service in April when I take it out of storage. The nearest indie to me is 3 hours away, so it's a bit of a faff to drop it off for a clutch replacement, come home and then go back for it a couple of days later.

Would you trust a decent local garage to do a clutch replacement on your car? It is just a car after all, and there's no F1 electronics on the clutch etc, so how different can it be to a 'normal' car? Would be a lot easier for me

Also don't really know the 550 but on a 348 it can be a DIY job and I know a few people who have done their own. As such the only reason to have a Ferrari specialist do it is for the service record rather than for the work itself.

Id take a different view to the above (and yes i did the clutch on my 348 when i had it) personally I would take it somewhere that has done it before. yes its just a clutch, yes its just a car, but if they screw it up the cost to fix it could be steep!

as to where to buy, i stick to superformance or ferrariparts. personally dont like eurospares.

I guess the counter argument for me would be having had all my daily drivers (I normally own 2 but sometimes 3) taken care of by my small local garage for 23 years vs my single Ferrari taken care of exclusively by Ferrari specialists (both indie and main dealer) for 15 years I have had far more screw ups, and it's not close, on the Ferrari than by the small local garage on the other cars. I'm struggling to think of any by the local garage, I could give you a list on the Ferrari. Perhaps I simply haven't found the right Specialist yet but it's not like we're over-run with them out here.

A I guy I know locally I guess effectively ditched the idea of a service record on his 308 and whatever he didn't do himself he had our local garage do. Don't think he ever had a problem. Older motor obviously but I sometimes wonder if it wasn't actually a very sensible move.

Adam at A E Performance in Knutsford did my 550 in 2017 during a service. The car had at that time covered 63600miles. From memory he fitted a non-standard clutch, replaced the bearing, seals and shaft bearing. All in the cost was £2838 + vat. My reason for having it replaced was not any mechanical issues other than a very heavy clutch pedal and the car had already gone well past what is 'normal' for a clutch on a 550, Adam said 45-50000 was usual. The car has now on 83000 miles trouble free.
