Fiorano discs on 355

Friend of Cheeky

New member
Hi, just wondered if anyone can offer me any advice:

The front discs on my 355 are squeling like crazy and they need to be skimmed or replaced with new ones. I've been offered a Fiorano brake kit and Fiorano spacers and wheel bolts - all for £1500.

Does anyone have any experience of any of the above? Are the uprated brakes any good, does the speacer kit affect the handling at all, doeas anyone know what the bolts look like etc?

All sounds tempting but I don't know enough to be able to make a decision

Cheers guys

The Fiorano brakes will squeal as well - depends how well you run them in , but stopping power is far greater.

I think the sqeal also depends on the pads you run. Mine do so for a while until they bed in and then stop. I must say that I do have an irritating sqeual that comes and goes and but I think it is handbrake related (although I have had this checked many times.

As for stopping power I am not really sure how much better the performance is. They are essentially the same diameter but are drilled so would probably be better at dissipating heat and go some way in reducing brake fade. I have never had brake fade even on track, however the pedal on a couple of occasions did start to get a bit "mushy" after about 30 mins of hard pounding.

As for the spacers I can't tell if they make a difference in isolation. The fiorano kit has a different geometry set up and sits lower. Also the antiroll bars are of thiker diameter, the suspension ECU runs the challenge spec and the steering rack is quicker. These combined I suspect do make a difference but I haven't really driven anyone elses car on track in anger so I can't really give an accurate comaprison.
If you track your car the discs would be a good idea, however at about £100 a corner more expensive than the standard ones and slightly more fragile (the drilled holes start cracking) you may also want to consider other aftermarket options as well.
On the spacers i would ask spidermanUK as I think he has put spacers on his car.

Cheers
Philip

Thanks Phillip,

That's usefuil to know because primarily it's the squealing I want to get rid of, it's driving me mad! I'm interested that you say the firoano kit squeals too though. Maybe I'll just get some new standard discs instead, plus the spacers depending on what spidermanuk says on those

Cheers

I replied to your pm.My car is standard, but I think chaa (ferrarispider) has spacers on his.
I'm about to order Porterfield pads from Ricambi USA, mainly because they are highly recommended by loads of users on an American based Ferrari forum:wink3: as a solution to brake squeal, which my car suffers from too!

They're also a lot cheaper than what's available here, but that's just a bonus as far as I'm concerned!

Oops! Sorry i got my ferrari and spider and mans mixed up. I did mean Chaa in my post.
Thanks for the info on the brake pads from Ricambi. i have new ones (pagid yellows which are standard for the fiorano cars) but when they are spent I will consider this.

Cheers

Thanks for the PM Clive.

The Porterfield pads idea is interesting. I've never heard of them before but I might look into that myself. I'm no longer confident that new discs, standards or fiorano, are going to sort my brake squeal out. I am confused though because the independent I use says it's the discs, not the pads so maybe new standard discs at the front is worth a try first - they're 120 each at the moment. I just don't want to fork out loads of cash and still have the squeal!

Just out of interest, and if you don't mind me asking, what are the pads costing, roughly?

Cheers Hazy. Blimey, this brake thing is getting more and more complicated:confused:

Nah not really, its better to try different pad compounds and makes at about £70.00 a throw before going to the bigger expense of changing the discs no??

The Porterfield pads are US$85 per set and carriage is US$56.75 so roughly £135 for a full set front and rear.TBH the one thing I haven't checked is the duty and VAT issue, but as I said earlier, the price is a bonus, it's the squeal problem I'm trying to eliminate!:Shh!: :Shh!: :Shh!:

Cheers guys,

I'll mull it over, sit on it for a while, change my mind a few times and then get round to doing something after Christmas probably. Will let you know the results:thumbsup:
