488 Wheel colour

Today, a person (let's call them that to avoid swearing) caused me to have to swerve to avoid being hit on a roundabout. At 10mph I hit the kerb and blew out a tyre and scraped two nearside wheels.

The tyre has been replaced but now I face the dilemma of repainting the wheels. So the question is - what colour.....here is a snap of the original colour. I would like to go for black but not sure that's right. What about gunmetal grey? any suggestions very welcome.

Personally I'd go gunmetal grey but it's a personal choice so I'd just go with what you like best. Black wheels aren't for everyone but there are plenty of red 488 images online with black wheels so you can have a look from most angles and see if they look good to you.

Personally I like the factory gunmetal grey (Grigio Ferro). Never have I liked black wheels as I feel the design of the wheel is lost as a result of being too dark.

I'm a traditionalist so keep them silver IMO. Maybe a very light gold would work with the red, something like the satin aurum used by Porsche to give a nod to some of the Ferrari racing cars over the years

It’s such a personal choice really. I don’t like black wheels - they make the car look rather ‘flat’ in my opinion. I would definitely stick with silver although a pale gold can work well. Both will give you a little more sparkle. But you should have what feels right to you.

Now I just have to have the hamsters removed from the front wheels that mysteriously appeared when I picked the car back up. I’ve heard CC brakes can do this but they have not in the last 18 months and 8000 miles.

Yes I tried that and it seemed to help. Maybe could do more. Also washed and then power washed and seemed to help but just came back. It’s so odd that it would start after having the wheels off and painted and then re-attached. I’ve booked it in to a local garage that does work on supercars to have a look. I suspect they will probably clean pads etc.

Suggest you find a clear piece of road, get up to about 70 and then apply the brakes sufficiently hard enough to trigger the ABS. Slow the car to about 10 mph, DON'T bring it to a full stop, and then repeat the process.
